Botulinum Toxin Application

What is Botulinum Toxin? Botulinum toxin is a protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. This substance has been used for both aesthetic and medical purposes for many years. It works by temporarily paralyzing muscles, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, and providing a smoother, more youthful look.

How is Botulinum Toxin Applied? Botulinum toxin is injected directly into the skin using fine needles. The procedure typically lasts about 10-15 minutes and does not require anesthesia. As a result, patients can resume their daily activities immediately after the treatment.

Where is Botulinum Toxin Applied? Common treatment areas include the forehead, between the eyebrows, the crow’s feet (around the eyes), and around the lips. Additionally, it is used for treating excessive sweating, migraines, eye twitching, and certain muscular disorders.

What Should Be Done After the Application? After botulinum toxin application, it is important not to massage the treated areas. Patients should avoid staying in a position with their head lower than their body, refrain from exposure to extremely hot environments, and avoid superficial exercise for the first 24 hours.

How Long Do the Effects of Botulinum Toxin Last? The effects of botulinum toxin typically last between 3 to 6 months. After this period, the muscles return to their normal function, and wrinkles may reappear.

Who Can Receive Botulinum Toxin Treatment? Botulinum toxin is suitable for healthy individuals over the age of 18. However, it is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women or those with neurological conditions.
